Without getting too deep into my overly sensitive guilt factor, I did not go to my Sunday night bible study/Jesus community/"not church" group this Sunday. Instead I went to a Matisyahu concert (if you haven't heard of him, you should look him up... good stuff). Once I got over the guilt of not being with my group, I enjoyed myself.

I actually went to church with my kids, sans my wife who was out of town. I patted myself on the back but then got stuck in the Starbucks line and was late. I'm not sure what I felt.

This Sunday was unusually special for me. I was asked to speak to our members and guests at our annual Thanksgiving dinner. I felt proud and humbled. I felt fear and trembling. I felt a sense of responsibility and a sense of utter unworthiness. In other words, I felt human.

I've posted the audio of my little Thanksgiving message, for anyone who might be interested.

Thanks for the ongoing discussion of this question, Jonathan. I think it's brilliant.

I went to church today! First time in quite a while. We've been "post-congregational" now for over a year, so ... We went to see Derek Webb who was visiting a great church in Charlotte called Renovatus. If we didn't live 30 minutes away, we'd definitely be a part of the Renovatus community, I think. But anyway, Derek was interviewed by the senior pastor for a bit and then he performed some songs. He even played a couple songs while we received Eucharist -- that was pretty special. Afterward we went out to lunch at a Chinese restaurant with a bunch of our friends. It was a great day.

Actually went to church and liked it this week. It was just me and my daughter but we had a good time. I think I've discovered what's wrong with me finally and I'm excited as to what will change now. Just got back from a cold 14 mile ride with one of my pastors where we talked about what I need to do to change the way things are going. The gospel was real for me today.

Today was good.

This week and last week I was involved in leading the worship. It's such a totally different 'vibe' when you're involved in the service compared with not as actively participating. I felt we blended together some different worship songs this time around that were highly focused on a single theme, and that our associate pastor's words also tied in well.

But I've spent so much more time in the audience of late, that I know we're not always connecting with everyone to the degree I personally felt this morning.

Responses to this question are always subjective; but I think that more involved you are in the service, the better your 'feeling' about it is going to be. Not everyone can give leadership as I did this morning, but 'involved' can mean so many different things; including praying for the leadership before and during the service; and praying for God to speak to you personally; and praying for God to give you opportunity to speak words of truth and encouragement to someone else.
