Missio Dei: Your Favorite Blog

  • Tracy Simmons · 1 year ago
Well, you already have most of my favorites, but here are two I'd recommend that aren't on your blog roll.

    1. Letters from Kamp Krusty by Brant Hansen. He makes me laugh even when I disagree with him: http://branthansen.typepad.com/letters_from_kam...

    2. Greg Boyd. It's not that I agree with all he says, and sometimes he's a bit "heady" for me, but he tackles very difficult topics with wisdom and intelligence that I don't find in often enough in blog-land. As an example of what I mean, read his article entitled "The Teleological Exegetical Principle and OT Violence" where he examines why a loving God would order mass slaughter of people in the OT when it seems so contrary to the love revealed in Jesus:
http://tinyurl.com/5l39k4 (he has other posts where he explores this topic in more detail, too). In other articles he tackles the topic of evil. He even wrote a three-part series on why he's a vegetarian (so am I, so I really enjoyed that). He covers a wide variety of topics.

His current blog is here: http://www.gregboyd.org/blog/ but the articles I especially loved of his are on his old blog here: http://gregboyd.blogspot.com/

I look forward to seeing what you end up adding to your blog roll down the line after everyone submits some of their favs.

    Jonathan,
One of my favorite blogs that I believe is somewhat below the radar of many people is Sarah at Accidental Blog. She writes with wisdom, humility, and a depth that always inspires me. I believe you would enjoy her blog if you are not already reading it.

A couple of other good ones that you probably already read are Kamp Krusty and Peter Rollins.

PS I would second the recommend for Greg Boyd.

So yeah, those 4 are my favorite "one blog." ;)

I really enjoy Leo's www.zenhabits.net It is not a "Christian" blog, per se, but I think if we could put into practice slowing our pace, being more focussed and really evaluating priorities (all topics of the blog) we would way better emulate the way Jesus spent his time on earth.

I quite enjoy The Rebel God: http://sharktacos.com/God/

He doesn't post too often but when he does it is good.

Geography of Grace is quite good as well. They haven't posted since July though: http://www.geographyofgrace.com/index.html

Thanks, Daniel. Glad you enjoy my stuff. I've got Jonathan on my blogroll, but he's never returned the favor (wink wink).

Jonathan. You gotta be reading Michael Spencer's stuff, right?! (iMonk and Jesus Shaped Spirituality).

    Grace and Peace,
    Raffi

Jonathan, I don't know you and this is the first time I've checked your blog but I thought I'd jump in anyway with my recommendations.. I hope you don't mind. I found you through Tracy Simmons' blog.

I would definitely recommend Faithfully Dangerous by Kent Burgess - http://nthegarden.blogspot.com/

Also, Grace Roots by Joel Brueseke - http://blog.graceroots.org/

Both Kent and Joel have depth of understanding that has greatly encouraged me in my journey. They are both able writers who speak clearly and to my heart.

Darin Hufford also has a great blog on his website.
    http://www.darinhufford.com/index.php

Darin has impacted my life like no other teacher ever has before. I've been a believer for over 30 years and, as a result of Darin's teachings, I feel like I'm finally getting it.

    Jonathan,
Great idea for a blog entry. I would agree with Aida's recommendations above, especially:
    Kent Burgess
    Darin Hufford

...But I'd also add: Tracy Simmon's "The Best Parts" at: http://thebestparts.blogspot.com/

Also, Rich's "The Unfolding Mystery" at:
    http://unfoldingmystery.blogspot.com/

...and mine (hee hee!): Walking In The Spirit

    Blessings,
    ~Amy :)

Other than doing the obvious and resorting to self-promotion, you should definitely check out Mark Sayers' blog. He's the best reader of post-modern culture I know of and his stuff is always worth a read. He's at http://marksayers.wordpress.com

Len Hjalmarson's Next Reformation. Beyond the blog portion - his 'articles' section has a lot of good resources.

    http://nextreformation.com/

And for a total change of pace and perspectives - Glory to God for All Things - rich and deep, an Orthodox perspective.

We're trying to do things a little differently at Thinking Out Loud. We can't decide if it's a blog or a webzine. But we offer:
    a) no references to any esoteric conferences or seminars
    b) no references to John Piper (but not for any particular reason)
    c) no references to computer or communications hardware or social networking systems
    d) no references to books that the average Christian wouldn't want to read
    e) we link to Missio Dei!!!
