I've wandered pretty far afield these last few years, but back to the cross I go. There's no better place to be.

Re: A Must Read

Read that post thing and I think that they are still battling with biblical truth versus mans traditions of how he thinks we are to approach God.

Yes God is holy, but so are we, in Christ! If we don't understand that then we will tend toward the dead works side and try hide it under the cover of "We must be holy like the bible says" but it is dead works!

Yeah the bible does refer to the fact that we must be holy but don't "cherry pick" because it also says, in more than one place and in context, that we are holy in Christ and so we meet that criteria!

Grace is an amazing gift - absolutely amazing gift and I think Yancey set it out so well in his book "What's so amazing about grace!"

I also seem to recall scripture saying "Grace and Truth came thru Jesus Christ" not "Holiness and Truth" - I think we humans, because of our predisposition toward religious practices and dead works, prefer to lean on us trying to be "holy" which is an impossibility.

We need to get a complete picture of what scripture says about us once we come into Christ, without that we are bound to get caught up in trying to get holy ourselves which ultimately leads to legalism.

Lots of love!

Pops

Re: A Must Read

I'm going to say that I'm in the gospel camp. The gospel to me is the perfect collision if the Grace, Kingdom, and Grace of Christ. God's holiness is satisfied by the combination of all 3.

My old family crest says "Crucis spes mea" (My hope is in the cross) I've decided to change that to "crucis, venia, Regnum Sarcalogos spes mea." I may not have that translated quite right but I'm going for "My hope is in the cross, grace, and Kingdom of Christ Jesus."

Re: A Must Read

I'll join that third camp too.
